Project Mindful Eating (ME) investigates the incorporation of mindful eating strategies into behavioral weight management programs for a variety of audiences.
Mindful eating is the "nonjudgmental awareness of emotional and physical sensations" while eating or in the presence of food. The Project ME Curriculum is a set of educational sessions that can be used in the development of behavioral weight management research projects for targeted audiences. Current and past research projects include the incorporation of Project ME materials into programs that address childhood obesity in rural preschool children, and stress-related eating among college students. The Health Professionals series incorporates mindful eating into a Culinary Medicine Program. |
Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home (HSH) is a Childhood Obesity Prevention Program for Rural Preschool Children and their families. HSH was developed using home environment theory. Each lesson addresses one mindful eating strategy. The educational program was tested with 34 families. After completion of the program, parents and grandparents exhibited greater levels of mindful eating skills.

Health Professionals
The Project ME Health Professionals curriculum was developed based on Project Me materials. This five week educational program provides instruction on the core principles of mindful eating. Students learn how to apply these principles to their own life and discuss mindful eating principles with current and future patients. This is a five year project. We have finished our first year of data collection.
